Post Production attempt in Writing/Directing?!

Updated: Oct 21

My First Filmmaking Endeavour

Working on various projects in the past, there were a lot of things to learn and many avenues to grow. I have had the privilege to work on some of the best crew and grow together as a team, and even some we call us a family. There are a few as well that left a lot to improve on.

It is worth to note that we are all in different stages of our career and I would always try and be patient with anyone I work with. Sometimes, the work ethics can bring about a lot of the team dynamics and project environment. And thus in this current dry spell, I set forth doing something I never thought I would be doing, making my own films.

What am I working on.

Being in Cornwall and the large amount of small communities that support each other, I stumbled upon the Cornwall Monologue Competition. An affordable film festival for filmmakers, actors and performers to showcase themselves with a monologue that is original or from a written pieces.

Seeing the requirements being entry level friendly, I thought of myself trying given that the entry fee is affordable and being local it would be a great chance to get feedback from the community and reach out to others around the area for potential collaborations.

Cornwall Monologue Competition, the first goal

Trying to write and direct as a first timer

Having spent my whole educational time learning the ins and outs of post production, writing was never something that I had any experience on, nor actively tried to pursue. This was a hard start for me given my lack of ideas to create something fresh.

Walking around Cornwall, in St. Ives

I tried to thing of various different avenues of inspiration, taking to accounts shots I seen in films as I catch up on series and shows. I also look into emotions and feelings that I wish to emulate. Ironically things we lack we try and create them to fill the void, and all that accompanied by researching the history of Cornwall and stories, and just being more aware of my day to day life.

Truro Train Station, another checkpoint of travel

That little bit of observation turns out to be very useful given after a few weeks I decided to come up with a few ideas. With that, you can see in the next week post about am journey for a project that I decided to write about and more of what I can share as I plan the next mini series on how I brought about a this film.
